The track itself, designed on the principles of biomechanics, is unusually fit for both training and competition. The springy surface has not only reduced injury, but accounted for many world-class performances. In the 1987 IC4A championships, two collegiate and eight meet records were established. in this competition alone, 35 competitors qualified for the NCAA championships
Considered one of the best facilities in the region, Gordon Track and Tennis Center is the host of numerous meets each season, and in recent years has been the site of the Heptagonal Championships as well as the ECAC and IC4 Championships.
